Aruba, your next favorite destination for your Caribbean vacations
Aruba One happy island says Bon Bini
Your Caribbean vacations start here.
The heartiness, friendliness and hospitality of the Arubian people make you feel at home the minute you set foot on Aruba.
The island is situated about 15 miles (25 km) from the coast of Venezuela, is about 20 miles (32 km) long and 6.2 miles (10 km) wide and the smallest of the Leeward Netherland Antilles.
The white sandy beaches which stretch for many miles, the capitol Oranjestad with its many little shops, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and casino's and of course the friendliest people have made the island one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean.
The north-coast is rough and wild with rocks, large bays, white dunes and some small beaches.
The centre of this pearl in the Caribbean Sea is hilly with the 620 feet (189 m) high Jamanota as the highest point and of course the cone shaped Hooiberg (the Dutch word for haystack).
The south coast has pearly white sandy beaches surrounded by palm trees and of course the crystal-clear blue sea.
Flora and Fauna
Because the climate is very dry, there is not much variation in the vegetation which mainly consists of cactuses, agaves, aloe and brushwood.
The divi-divi trees which horizontal growth is caused by the trade wind are characteristic.
The island is inhabited by almost 200 species of birds.
Besides the donkeys, goats and several species of lizards (the iguana is the largest) there are few other representatives of the animal world.
Tourist attractions
Ornamented situated at the Paardenbaai has many beautiful colonial buildings.
From the historical point of view, Fort Zoutman, the oldest building on the island, is very important. In the Wihelminastraat we find the oldest houses.
Shopping, dining in excellent restaurants, Visit the many casinos, nightclubs and bars.
The island also knows some interesting caves and you have a beautiful view over the island from the Jamanota hill. We also mention the Santa Anna Church in the north.
The other part of the island is a totally other world.
It lies beneath the surface of the sea, the underwater world.
